    What is curcumin?

Curcumin, also known as acid yellow, is a natural phenolic antioxidant extracted from the rhizomes of ginger plants such as turmeric, zedoary, mustard, curry, and turmeric. The main chain is unsaturated aliphatic and aromatic groups. Diketone compounds are commonly used in seasonings and food colorings. They are non-toxic and have a chemical formula of C21H20O6.
Curcumin is a natural compound with good anti-inflammatory properties. Among them, turmeric contains about 3% to 6% curcumin, which is a rare pigment with a diketone structure in the plant kingdom. Curcumin is an orange-yellow crystalline powder with a slightly bitter taste and is insoluble in water. It is mainly used in food production to color sausage products, canned food, sauce-braised products and other products. Curcumin has hypolipidemic, anti-inflammatory, choleretic, and antioxidant effects. In addition, some scientists have found that curcumin can help treat drug-resistant tuberculosis.

    What are the benefits?

    1) Relieve joint inflammation and pain
One of the most common uses of curcumin is to combat joint pain and discomfort caused by arthritis. A large number of studies have shown that curcumin can inhibit the release of inflammatory mediators related to the development of rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and osteoarthritis, can continuously improve arthritis symptoms, and can be used as a good supplementary treatment to relieve joint pain. .
    2) Improve chronic inflammation
Many trials have shown that curcumin has anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting key inflammatory markers in the body. Turmeric’s antioxidant activity also helps reduce oxidative stress, a process associated with low-grade inflammation.
    3) Help lose weight
Several trials have shown that curcumin can increase insulin sensitivity, regulate lipid metabolism, stabilize metabolism and manage weight by inhibiting multiple processes of adipose tissue growth.
    4) Improve skin health
Scientists have shown that curcumin can improve inflammation by reducing oxidative stress associated with skin diseases. Turmeric can also enhance collagen synthesis and significantly speed up tissue repair.
    5) Natural blood thinner
Curcumin supplements have shown potential as an anticoagulant under certain conditions. Turmeric extract can affect several stages of the clotting process, including: thrombosis (local clotting of blood) and hemostasis (blocking of blood flow).

    Application direction

    Food additives
Curcumin has long been widely used in the food industry as a commonly used natural pigment. It is mainly used for dyeing canned food, sausage products, and sauce-braised products. The amount used is determined by normal production needs. The product form of functional foods with curcumin as the main ingredient can be general food or some non-food forms, such as capsules, pills or tablets. For general food forms, you can consider some foods with yellow pigments, such as pastries, sweets, drinks, etc.
Curcumin is a food additive approved by the Codex Alimentarius Commission of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO/WHO-1995). It is one of the nine natural pigments that was first promulgated in my country's "Hygienic Standards for the Use of Food Additives" and is allowed to be used in food.

Turmeric is a commonly used medicine, and its main bioactive components are curcuminoids and volatile oils. The former has hypolipidemic, anticoagulant, antioxidant, choleretic and other effects; while the latter mainly has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and cough-relieving effects.
